The Centre of Excellence in Interdisciplinary Mental Health's definition of the term 'interdisciplinary' is one which equally values service user and carer expertise alongside that of mental health professionals. The CEIMH ensures that it supports service user and carer involvement in a number of ways.
At the initial stages of the Centre's development, service users were consulted about the
Building design of the CEIMH. The CEIMH provides office space for Service Users in Partnership,
Carers in Partnership and supports
Suresearch, a West Midlands network of service users and their allies.
Through the administration of the Centre's
Teaching and Learning Development Fund the Centre has actively encouraged the involvement of service users and carers both by promoting the incorporation of service user and carer perspectives into applications to the Fund, and by encouraging service users and carers themselves to apply for funding. The Centre is
Building service user and carer capacity through a range of activities supported by the Fund.
The Centre also runs
events, develops
training resources,
multimedia resources and
text-based resources that are developed with and for service users and carers. The CEIMH is part of an
international network of mental health service users and their professional and academic allies.
